The Latest Scoop on The World of Beauty

From classy to sassy - what's hot and new in beauty category

Can we define beauty in the 21st century?

The world of beauty encompasses a wide range of subcategories, all of which are interlinked with the with the concept of self love, self worth and societal expectations.

Beauty can be both liberating and constraining. It is dynamic and ever changing. And in a world where social media have become an indispensable part of people’s lives, our playbook dives deep and observes the changing landscape of beauty today.

The democratization of beauty

With a history dating back to as long as 4000 BC, there has always been a room for the beauty industry. But beauty standards are always changing. Gone are the days where magazines, fashion runways and big corporations dictate what’s hot. Beauty trends today can come from anywhere.

It seems that much of today’s beauty trends are driven by the desire to achieve overall healthy appearance, and this goes for both men and women.

From nature to culture, and endless beauty possibilities

Beyond the appetite to try something that is new and exciting, consumers today are also more socially conscious in purchasing goods and services.

From grooming, to cosmetics and hair: we are seeing a wave of newer and relatively niche beauty trends and movements gaining cult like followings. People can now buy lipsticks that are vegan, adopt halal skin care regimes or get organically sourced shampoos.

The future lies in collaboration and in thinking beyond what is common

The world’s youngest billionaire, Kylie Jenner started her empire by selling lip kits. Her success can largely be attributed to a larger trend in the global beauty industry, as social media influencers and vloggers becomes an integral part to how brands builds their stories.

As a category that never goes out of style, beauty can live in conjunction with other categories: as seen in SK II’s foray into technology or MAC Cosmetics’ launching a series of makeup inspired by mobile gaming.
